Position Overview

The Mental Health Counselor will provide individual and group counseling, develop treatment plans, coordinate care, and support clients in achieving their personal goals. This role requires empathy, strong clinical skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and ethical practice.

Key Responsibilities

Client Care & Counseling

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client records and treatment information.

  • Conduct client assessments through interviews, observations, and/or tests.

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical knowledge.

  • Modify therapeutic approaches as needed to reflect changes in client status.

  • Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions to help clients overcome challenges, adjust to life changes, or develop coping strategies.

  • Encourage clients to express feelings, gain self-awareness, and strengthen relationships.

  • Provide crisis intervention, including suicide risk assessments.

  • Act as a client advocate, coordinating needed services and connecting clients to community resources.

  • Offer family counseling to help loved ones understand and support clients.

  • Collaborate with family members, probation officers, police, and other professionals as needed during treatment.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete and maintain accurate client-related paperwork, including diagnostic records, progress notes, and federally/state-mandated forms.

  • Track and report on client progress, adjusting plans as necessary.

  • Maintain efficiency and timeliness in documentation, treatment planning, and administrative tasks.

Professional Development & Community Engagement

  • Stay current on best practices and trends in counseling through reading, training, and professional networking.

  • Participate in workshops, courses, and continuing education programs.

  • Research and connect with community resources to support client needs.

  • Contribute to prevention and outreach programs that promote mental health and wellness.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.

  • Current state licensure (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or equivalent).

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Experience in crisis intervention and treatment planning preferred.

  • Commitment to ethical and professional standards of practice.
